I love photography because it allows people to relive experiences and emotions they have shared with love ones. My favorite photographs professionally are ones that give meaning to the couple. My favorites personally are ones that capture my children’s personalities or the love in my family. I got into photography to fulfill my creative juices but I found moments more compelling.
Now don’t get me wrong, I enjoy having fun with lighting, finding unique compositions, and experimenting with clever new photography hacks. To create some eye candy is also a major aspect of what makes photography fun. Part of why I made this site is to give me an excuse to play around and practice my photography skills to make art for arts sake, and hopefully I can help you get better at making both eye candy and soul food.

I started photography for fun back in 2005 and quickly decided it was something I wanted to get good at and dreamed of making it a living. I didn’t believe It was possible and didn’t pursue my dream until after getting a real job. Finally in 2008 I started shooting weddings as a hobby for family and friends and then in 2013 started a business. In 2017 I finally believed in my dream, a dozen years after it was born, and went into photography full time.

Awards aren’t everything, and I’m not pretending I’m the best in the world. However I have worked very hard for years to improve my skillest. Awards motivate me to keep working hard at my craft while helping to validate my progress and push me to keep improving.

My career in education
After 12 years as a middle school science and digital media teacher, I decided to pursue photography full time. I’ve always craved growth and need to constantly challenge myself. So I decided to take a bet on me that I could make my dream of being a successful photographer come true. To be successful as any type of solopreneur, especially in photography, you need to learn and grow a LOT to succeed. I’d love to share how I got here with you. I’m still learning and growing and I’d love to take you along with me.
With 3 degrees in education and 12 years of experience teaching thousands of students I feel very strongly that I can help others learn to be better photographers and successful business owners. I want to teach as many new photography friends as possible because I’m not done learning.

I love to read nonfiction, play tennis, and ride a mountain bike. But I have toddlers so I mostly watch pixar movies, tie pigtails, and clean mac & cheese from the carpet. I believe family is everything, and finding meaning in life is more important than money.
If im not working on my business, I’m playing with my girls and trying to make them laugh. If i’m lucky they go to sleep at a reasonable hour then I get to stay up late with my high school sweetheart watching non rated G shows on Netflix. (some faves are Ozark, breaking bad, Sopranos, and mindhunter) I like to occasionally take the girls to a braves game and I look forward to someday seeing my alumni spartans back in the final four.
